Hey, howsa bout an update ova here?!? Oh, sorry, too many accents and languages fly around me all day; it's hard to keep track of which state I am from and that I should have some sort of Southern drawl, not sound like I'm from Puerto Rico......
Aaaaanyways. "Good afternoon. How many? How many adults, kids? Are you on the Disney Dining Plan? Last name? We'll get you seated in just a moment. Thanks." Over and over and over.
I was told I would be in Quick Service Food and Beverage before I came down here. Ok, I accepted my fast food fate. I get here, I find out I am in the food court at Port Orleans Resort-- Riverside. Ok, so, I am in fast food and I'm at a hotel instead of getting to be in one of the parks. Ok, I can live with that I guess. Go through Food and Beverage training day. Next day, get toured and such around Riverside. More online classes and tests about cleaning, alcohol service, safety (SafeD begins with me!!!), etc. Go to costuming. Find out that Riverside's food court is closed for refurbishment, and I will be a seater/greeter/host/matrie d', whatever you want to call it, at Boatwright's Dining Hall. I am told this is much better. My costume makes me feel like I am working at Cock of the Walk, but still cooler looking than, well, most everything else all the thousands of Disney Monkeys have to wear, so I'm pleased.
Ya know what? It's niiiiiiiiice. My job is almost too easy. Almost. :) Besides just standing mostly in the same place for four or five hours, it's great. I greet people at the podium and put them into the computer for a table or makes a reservation, or I am actually the one who walks them to their table and gives them their menus. Basically, that's it. Later, I will get trained on actually assigning guests to tables (a whole new set of headaches, though), but for now, it's cake. Free drinks all day. And as a new guy, I get "taste tests" so I have some knowledge of what we are actually serving the people. Plus, I get to give little kids stickers while they wait. Who doesn't like stickers? Well, my fellow custodians, apparently, because the stickers we all give out ends on their floors and such and have to be peeled off. Hehehe.
So, yeah, I've got a gravy job. I like the night/dinner shift better for some reasons, and I like the breakfast/lunch shift better for some reasons, so it works out ok. So, things work out. I'm happy. Cya.
